Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin in programs and activities receiving Federal financial assistance. Specifically, Title VI provides that, “no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance” (42 U.S.C. Section 2000d).
Gastonia Transit has adopted this program to ensure that no person is excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of, its transit services or programs on the basis of race, color, or national origin, sex, race, color, age, Limited-English proficiency, income level, national origin or disability nor any other protected class as afforded by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended.
Any person who believes that he or she has been subjected to discrimination under Title VI on the basis of race, color or national origin may file a Title VI complaint with Gastonia Transit within 180 days from the date of the alleged discrimination. Complaints may either be filed by one of the methods below.

A complainant may also file a complaint directly with the Federal Transit Administration by filing a complaint with the Office of Civil Rights, Attn: Title VI Program Coordinator, East Building, 5th Floor-TCR, 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE, Washington, DC 20590.
