City’s Public Utilities Director Promoted to New Assistant City Manager

The City of Gastonia has named Public Utilities Director Brian Potocki, PE as its new Assistant City Manager. Potocki will oversee several departments for the City of Gastonia:  Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Public Utilities. The water and wastewater divisions of the Public Utilities Department operate as Two Rivers Utilities and is a regional utility partner providing utility services to over 100,000 people throughout the region including Gaston County and Clover, South Carolina.

“Brian has had exposure to many different departments and operations throughout his tenure with the City.  The reorganization of responsibilities in the management team will provide the opportunity to combine operational departments under a dedicated assistant city manager,” said City Manager Michael Peoples. “It is extremely important for the success of Gastonia that great focus be placed on strategic operations of our utilities and the provision of important services such as solid waste, streets, stormwater and parks and recreation.”

Potocki is a 2001 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer with the State of North Carolina and holds a Grade IV Wastewater Collections System Certification, as well as a Grade A Water Distribution Certification. Potocki started his career with Gastonia in 2001 and has served in various positions within the Development Services Department and Engineering Division.  He advanced to Assistant Public Utilities Director in May 2018 and was promoted to Public Utilities Director in May 2023.

Potocki will officially begin his new role on January 11, 2025.
