The City of Gastonia and Gaston County are partnering with HealthNet Gaston to open a cooling station at the old Salvation Army property parking lot, 107 S. Broad St. in downtown Gastonia, to offer some relief to some of our most vulnerable residents.
Beginning tomorrow (June 27), Gaston Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) will open the cooling station from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days a week, on days when temperatures reach 90 degrees or higher, as determined by GEMS. Residents are encouraged to follow City of Gastonia Government and Gaston County Government on Facebook for updates to the cooling station schedule, which will be posted each Monday on those pages.
HealthNet Gaston is also collecting much-needed supplies for those in need and has an Amazon Wish List. Those wishing to donate immediately, can drop off items such as bottled water, hygiene supplies, and non-perishable food at HealthNet Gaston, located at 613 E. Franklin Blvd in Gastonia.
For more information about the cooling station or how to get involved, call HealthNet Gaston at 704-874-1958.
