The City of Gastonia uses CodeRED as our emergency notification system. This service allows city leaders to send urgent messages to our residents and businesses within minutes to notify you about important, time-sensitive information such as weather emergencies, power outages, missing persons, or other vital information. We may also notify you about other types of emergencies or local community matters. The City switched from Blackboard to CodeRED in August 2022.
Information is sent via phone calls, texts, and emails. We will not share your personal information with anyone.
We invite you to participate in this important service! If you had already been receiving messages from the City through Blackboard, you do not need to do anything. To start receiving messages or reactivate the notifications, please click on the CodeRED icon below. There is no cost to sign-up.
You can also receive CodeRED emergency messages on your Apple or Android phone. Download the CodeRED mobile alert app on your phone from Google Play or the App Store.
How will I know when CodeRED is calling?
A CodeREDmessage will have the caller ID # 866-419-5000 for emergencies and caller ID # 866-969-4636 for non-emergencies.
What do I do if I receive a CodeRED message?
If you receive a call, listen carefully to the entire message and follow all instructions. You can repeat the message by pressing any key. Do not call 9-1-1 for further information unless you are directed to do so. If you receive an email or text message, be sure to read the entire message carefully and follow all instructions.
What if I miss a CodeRED phone call?
If you miss a phone call and do not have an answering service, the system will consider the call “incomplete” and will attempt to call again after several minutes have passed. If you phone line is busy, CodeRED will try two more times to connect. At any point, you may redial the 800-number on your caller ID to hear a replay of the message that was sent.
