People living and visiting in Gastonia, NC, are valuable eyes and ears for our community and for the Gastonia Police Department. We respect your input about our operations, both good and bad. Whenever you see a police action that you believe we should be aware of please report it. An effective partnership between the citizens of Gastonia and the police department will ensure quality law enforcement in our community. If you have a compliment or a complaint about the GPD, we strongly suggest that you bring it to our attention. The department takes your comments, compliments and complaints seriously. 
 
Commendations are forwarded to officers and their supervisors so that the officer may be recognized. It is also the department’s policy to investigate all allegations of employee misconduct. The Gastonia Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards is responsible for coordinating investigations related to alleged employee misconduct and commendations for exemplary service. The Office of Professional Standards reports directly to the Chief of Police. 
 
Commending Police Employees
When you receive service that you feel is worthy of a commendation, please let us know. You may call the Gastonia Police Department (704-866-6772) or e-mail the information to police@gastonianc.gov When contacting the police department, include all the information you can remember about the outstanding service. The employee will be notified of your commendation as will her/his supervisors, and a copy will also be placed in his/her employee file.
 
The Complaint Process
The Gastonia Police Department values community feedback and is dedicated to providing the best police service possible. If you feel a police department employee has treated you improperly, or are concerned about any police department action, please send an email to police@gastonianc.gov or fill out a Citizen Complaint Form. You may return the form in person, by mail, fax or email, or you may call to schedule an appointment. When a complaint is received, the Office of Professional Standards sends a letter to confirm the complaint has been received and assigned for investigation. Every effort is made to complete the investigation within 90 days; however, circumstances may require a longer period of time. You will receive a follow-up letter at the completion of the investigation. However, in accordance with state law, the Gastonia Police Department is unable to release what specific discipline was imposed on the employee.
