Streets & Traffic Staff
The Street & Traffic Division controls over 350 miles of City street and 100 miles of state-maintained streets within the City limits. The City's street maintenance crews are responsible for sweeping, flushing, and resurfacing streets, as well as repairing concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks, and potholes.
Periodically, the City, in conjunction with a street surveying consultant, rates every street in the city on a scale of 1-100 (100 being the best condition). This guide is used to determine which streets are in need of resurfacing.
The City's Traffic Operations section maintains and oversees the operation of more than 140 computerized traffic signal intersections, approximately 1,000 traffic signal heads, 250 miles of pavement markings, and 17,000 traffic signs. The Division is also responsible for setting up detours for construction, special events, etc.
