Crime Statistics

The Problem Analysis & Research Center (PARC) is a specialized support unit that reports directly to the Chief of Police. The Center recognizes the need to balance tactical responses to requests while striving to address problems and issues that affect the Gastonia Police Department (GPD) and the community in the long term. Please use links below for information that highlights the segments within PARC, including but not limited to GIS functionality, grant writing and management, planning and research operations.
GIS Mapping
The primary duties of crime analysts are to provide timely and pertinent information relative to crime patterns and trends to assist departmental personnel. This information serves as a basis for planning deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of criminal activities, and aids the investigative process. Personnel within the unit utilize many tools to accomplish this, with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) being one of the most popular. While GIS is a popular tool for analysis, the main function of PARC analysts is to process data and provide timely information so the agency can develop a plan to reduce/ prevent crime and solve problems within the community.
