The Gastonia Fire Department recognizes the Knox Rapid Entry Key Box System. This system allows the department after-hours entry to a property in the event of an emergency or false alarm. This system is an advantage to property owners because it can allow entry with no damage to your building. The below paragraph is from the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code section 506.1:
Where access to or within a structure or an area is restricted because of secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for life-saving or fire-fighting purposes, the fire code official is authorized to require a key box to be installed in an approved location.
All new construction within the city limits of Gastonia, North Carolina is required to purchase a Knox Box.
Existing businesses are encouraged to purchase a Knox Box, but it is not a requirement.
-To order a Knox Box, go to: http://www.knoxbox.com/products
-We suggest picking one of the many boxes available in the 3200 series, however you can pick any style you desire.
Once the box arrives and is installed, call the Gastonia Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office at (704) 866-6807 and someone will come to your location to select a place outside of your business for the box to be mounted.
