Ward 2 - Glenn Silverman

Glenn Silverman has been a dedicated public servant for more than 30 years. First enlisting in the U.S. Army in June 1994, he served five years before later working for the City of Charlotte at the Charlotte Coliseum on Tyvola Blvd until its closure on November 11, 2005.

Glenn holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Belmont Abbey College and a master’s degree in accounting from Gardner Webb University. He currently works for the U.S. Treasury Department based in Charlotte, NC. He previously served as Steward and Western VP for the National Treasury Employees Union.

A 25-year resident of Gastonia, Glenn first became involved in community issues regarding wastewater, traffic and speed limits, and zoning and safety issues in 2010. He has been a registered voting official at precinct #14 (Gardner Park) since 2018.

Since 2023, Glenn has served as the Ward 2 representative on the Gastonia Planning Commission, where he was appointed by Mayor Pro Tempore Dr. Dave Kirlin.

An Eagle Scout since 1990, Glenn has served as the Cubmaster of Pack 36 at Covenant Baptist Church for 6 years and the Scoutmaster of Troop 21 at Myers Memorial United Methodist Church for 8 years.

In addition to his local service, Glenn is an active member of the Charlotte Philatelic Society, where he serves as treasurer and youth coordinator. He continues to volunteer as a Merit Badge Counselor to Scouting America (Boy & Girl Scouts) teaching an average of 25 youth annually.

The Silverman family are longtime members of Temple Emanuel in Gastonia and have raised four children in Ward 2, three of which graduated from Ashbrook High School. The youngest was selected for the first graduating class of Gaston Early College of Medical Science, where he earned both his high school diploma and an Associates of Arts degree.
