Ward 2 - David Kirlin

Dr. Dave Kirlin has been a dedicated public servant since being elected to the Gastonia City Council in November 1999. A respected local businessman, Dr. Kirlin is the founding partner of Gaston Foot and Ankle Associates, P.A., which he recently retired from. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, a Master of Science Degree from Rutgers University in Camden, NJ, and a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA.

Throughout his extensive service on the City Council, Dr. Kirlin has chaired the Recreation Advisory Committee from 1999 to 2021 and served on several other key committees, including Personnel, Facilities/Management, Finance/Benefits, and Public Safety. He has also been a council representative to the Schiele Museum Board of Trustees and the ABC Board of Directors.

Dr. Kirlin’s professional and civic contributions have earned him numerous awards, including being named North Carolina Podiatrist of the Year in 1999, receiving the Gaston Regional Chamber Business Person of the Year award in 2014, and being honored as the Honorary Chair for the Community Foundation’s Run for the Money in 2015. An Eagle Scout since 1970, he is also a member of the Paul Harris Society of Rotary International.

In addition to his council service, Dr. Kirlin is an active member of several organizations, including the North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society, where he served as president, treasurer, and trustee. He previously served as a podiatrist at the Kintegra Diabetic Foot Clinic and remains involved with the Schiele Museum, the Gastonia East Rotary Club, Catawba Lands Conservancy, and Preservation North Carolina. Dr. Kirlin, his wife Nan, are members of First United Methodist Church.

Dr. Kirlin's leadership, professional expertise, and lifelong commitment to service have made him a valued figure in both the medical and civic communities of Gastonia.
